Artist Statement

There is a place in my imagination where I go to explore my creative impulse. As I start a project, I look beyond its boundaries to put its suggestions into practice, but I am careful not to wander too far from its center so I can assess my efforts. It’s the comparisons between my thoughts and feelings I experience within its walls and the way I transform those observations into my sculptures, paintings, prints, graphics, videos, and assemblages that are the essence of my work. I strive to imbue my art with a sense of discovery fostered by these comparisons. In this way, my art is theater, in that the experiences it offers are designed with anticipation of the responses I hope to elicit, making my work an extension of how it is presented. As a result, some pieces, though small in scale, require an entire stage for audiences to appreciate their details, while others play supporting roles in site-specific installations. In this way, I expand my repertoire, enabling its members to be presented in intimate as well as public spaces and to capture the eye in any given setting.
